27 February 2017: First moment of truth

Tuesday evening, President Donald Trump will address a joint session of Congress. To many, this will be Trump’s first moment of truth. (And, by the way, they do not hope for a first moment of alternative truth…) Many of Trump’s predecessors have grasped this opportunity to showcase their policies and priorities for the first year of their term as US President. If Donald Trump does not deliver, it is likely that the general public will exercise more patience. But how will stock markets react? Disappointment is just around the corner and an ease of stock prices is to be expected. But also in the case of enough concreteness on the side of the 45th President of the United States, there is some risk of damage. It will be hard for Donald Trump to do it right this Tuesday evening.

In the Netherlands, Carnaval is being celebrated at the moment. Mainly in the southern provinces, but over the years it has also become increasingly popular in the rest of the country. Though in order to experience “the real deal”, you’ll still have to travel southward.
Yesterday, together with a group of friends, René attended the traditional Carnaval parade in Bavel, a small village near his hometown. During Carnaval, many cities and villages in the Netherlands have an alternative name. Until Tuesday at midnight (when Carnaval ends) the village of Bavel goes by the name of ‘Baviaonenland’.
