26 January 2017: 20,000

The Dow closed for the first time above 20,000 points. It is not something most investors would have expected shortly after Donald Trump’s election victory. What will it bring? Will it confirm the belief of bullish investors? Or will it be a wake-up call to the bearish ones who are convinced this rally has gone much too far? It was a long stretch that for most of the time went up from a low of 7,000 in 2009 to the current heights. On the other hand: 21,000 is less than 5% away at the moment. 20: that is a two and a zero. All or nothing.

On a personal invitation by the Head of Exhibitions at Van Gogh Museum, René and his longtime friend Ramón visited the exhibition ‘Daubigny, Monet, Van Gogh: Impressions of Landscape’. It goes without saying that Ramón, who is an art painter himself, as well as a great admirer of Van Gogh, enjoyed the historical paintings to the fullest. To René, this was a double joy. Not only did he enjoy the personal tour of the paintings they received, but he also loved to see the impact of Van Gogh’s works on a professional in the field of visual arts, like Ramón. It soon became clear to René, that each of us perceives art much more differently than we would think. Referring to some visitors of the exhibition, who passed by the paintings as if in a hurry, Ramón noticed: “I wonder what they saw.”
