28 December 2016: Consumer confidence

Consumer confidence in the US reached the highest level in fifteen years. It was the expected confidence in particular that reached this level. Perceived confidence was somewhat lower than during the previous months. There you have it: expectations! That will be the theme for the first quarter of 2017: will the Trump administration live up to the expectations that have made stock prices rise to the highest levels ever? In the Netherlands, we have a saying that states that confidence comes by foot and leaves by horse. If there is any truth to that, January might have some nasty surprises in store for investors.

white-chapel-logo-smallAlmost everything was higher yesterday (S&P 500, NASDAQ, Dow, volatility, VIX), except for our UVXY ETFs, which lost 2.6%. Our return for the year dropped to 252% and return for the quarter is just below 15%.
White Chapel did not give a signal at the end of yesterday’s session. We hold on to our UVXY ETFs.
